Where are the best cocktails
I was wondering where the best cocktails are in Hackney. I’m not looking for any bar that does cocktails badly, even if they do them cheaply – but places that serve great onesSaf are definitely up there as a good place to start

The Lumiere on Chatsworth Rd makes fantastic cocktails, but very much on an unofficial basis. If you tell them it’s your birthday they’ll present you with the ‘special menu.’ They take their time, but know how to mix a drink. Not a massive menu, mind. The downstairs of this place has to be seen to be believed. It seems to be modelled on a pole-dancing club. The only reason anyone can drag me to Broadway Market these days is to go to Off Broadway for a cocktail – their Whisky Sours are spectacular, and they know how to make pretty much anything. They’ve got the best-stocked bar I know of in Hackney, but it’s expensive, so for me it’s special occasions only. Not sure how it happened, but it’s also a de facto lesbian bar.

The nightjar in Old Street is good (http://london.unlike.net/locations/307744-Nightjar). A bit pricey but they put a lot of effort in.
Also like the Social and Freuds in the west end

My personal favourite is Off Broadway on Broadway Market. It sometimes takes a while but that’s because they take their time to make a good one. Their ‘Old Fashioned’ is fantastic, but don’t have more than three or four – you’ll fall over!

I agree, Off Broadway is my favourite; really good cocktails and really great bar staff
