Volunteer with Hackney Pirates
The Hackney Pirates are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our crew, to help kids develop their literacy through creativity. We are a group of teachers and social entrepreneurs working to develop core literacy skills and creative ability in young people in our target area of Hackney, by giving young people one to one attention in an unconventional learning environment.Additionally, we hope to bring together the community of creative professionals in the area and the children.Based on the premise that young people progress fastest when given personalised attention from an adult who cares, we run after-school clubs with the opportunity for young pirates to work on homework with one to one support from volunteers and to participate in creative projects, like animation, documentary-making and creative writing. Sessions run from 3.45 to 6.45pm every week night. No previous experience necessary. You’ll need to come to one training session and we will organise a CRB check for you if you are interested in joining us. There are also many opportunities to become involved with the running of the organisation, such as helping with our computer systems, designing marketing material and fundraising. Please contact camilla@hackneypirates.org if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or see our website www.hackneypirates.org “
