Veggie Come Dine With Me

I think it would be great to do a come dine with me type thing, veggie style (the veggies never come off too well on the programme). It would be some dinner parties over a period of time, think one a week, rather than one a night.Who’s up for it?

  1. Sounds like fun! My husband and I were gifted a \vegetarian sushi” book over Christmas which sounds like great veggie dinner party fun!”

  2. I’d love to participate once I move back to London. I’m currently working part-time as a baker for a cafe, so I’ll be able to at least serve up some sweeties. I’ll be practicing my cooking skills in anticipation for these dinners!

  3. @quitepeculiar do you have an idea of when you’ll be back?

  4. :::squinches face:::May or June, it seems like. Possibly July, if my job prospects here in the states remain as they are, but that’s rather doubtful.

  5. I’d be up for this! Perhaps a fortnightly thing as we all have busy lives? I’d welcome hosting one at mine.

  6. I’d be up for this too!

  7. I’m quite up for doing the first round as 3 houses and 6 people – so you host with another person of your choice – and spreading it out over a number of weeks. No scores, just a bit of fun. Hands up if you’re up for that.

  8. Sounds like a good idea to make it more manageable, though I don’t really know anyone on here yet to

  9. Just for clarity, when I say another person of your choice – I don’t mean someone else on here, a partner or a friend would be fine

  10. Trying to think of a friend to host with and drawing a blank – my local friends are either not into cooking or in couples, and come to think of it my not-so-local friends are pretty much all couples too. Not that that matters per se, but in terms of having them come over to hackney for 3 evenings.TL;DR – I’m game and can host at my place (along the top of London Fields), and like the idea of shared hosting if anyone wants to join with me and don’t mind missing it this time if there are 3 other pairs of people. That was more effort that it needed to be ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I’m interested too! Does it matter I’m neither a veggie or that I don’t have a co-cook? I’m off Clapton Pond โ€“ and I’d say 2/3 of what I normally cook is vegeterian anyway… Happy to host or team up with someone else.

  12. @saladefolle – I don’t think being veggie matters as long as the menu is.We can ditch the co-hosting thing for everyone if its not relevant, I’ll no doubt have @alexpink hosting with me

  13. @ewebber: the advantage of co-hosting is it’s a lot easier to enjoy your evening if you share the shopping/cooking/washing up with someone else. Otherwise it can get stressful (plus in the TV programme they only have 4 people at the table). Let’s see what the others think…

  14. I’d be up for it too, although we’re not in our flat at the moment as there’s building work going on … and haven’t got a kitchen table ! So might have to get involved further down the line if you get started soon. I’d go for the co-hosting as I agree it can be really stressful cooking for a more than a few people and I’d like to enjoy it!

  15. am doing a veggie burns night supper this sunday…mmm veggie haggis, neeps and tatties

  16. I think you could possibly get two folks co-hosting from the group to make things a bit easier, if people cared to throw down with stuff they tag-teamed together. Unlike the actual Come Dine With Me television show, we aren’t grading or rating each other, are we?Another option would be to do potlucks, in which everyone brings a dish to someone’s house. This is quite common in America and presumably Canada, but I had a few English friends who told me it wasn’t as common there. It’s a nice way for there to be an equal amount of work between everyone, since everyone is just making one dish (or two if people feel like being really cooky or bakey), but a drawback could be that people might not bring very cohesive dishes, ie sushi alongside a vegetarian roast alongside a pasta dish.

  17. OK, so this is how I see the rules/set up, for the first one anyway.6 people in total3 nights hosted by a pair of people, possibly a friend, possibly a new yeah! Hackney friendEvery other week on a convenient nightAll veggie foodNo scoringlots of fun!So far we have myself who would be hosting with @alexpink@katybeale has said she wants to be involved and has the best dining table ๐Ÿ™‚@kbellamy has expressed an interest, but lacks space to host@goodlegs is lacking a cooking buddy@saladefolle is also lacking a co-host@quitepeculiar is way too far away at the moment :(That is actually 6 of us so could work if you are all up for doing it.
