  2. Still very much a work in progress- all the furniture has been ripped out, lots of painting and building going on. I can’t say I’ll miss the psychedelic wallpaper

  3. met the lady (an upper claptonite as all the best are) who acquired the pub for her Indie chain Urban Pubs a week or so back. don’t know any of theirs but she was also instrumental in the billet being bought and done up so I’m sure she knows her stuff. she says they have great plans for it. well, she would I guess.

  5. Interesting, the group that did own it also used to have the cafe in the empire, so are they completely out of the area now?

    I’d love to see the wallpaper in the corridor removed and the wood panelling restored to how it used to be

  6. I agree @ewebber but didn’t the corridor use to be ornate tiles like still exposed in the entrance/porch?

  8. Sorry, it isnt. Michael, who is the bloke that owns the Empress and the Billet, told me it was Urban Pubs. However I know there’s a connection as it was the aforementioned lady who works for Urban Pubs that convinced Michael to go for the Billet.

  9. @GavinRedknap Ah!! Doh! I was misinformed.

    Well, either way, I’ll be checking it out this evening. Should be interesting. They responded positively towards a tweet I had about Joy Division, so I have high hopes.
