Hackney Debate 3: The Media We Deserve? Friday Nov. 4th in St. Peter’s Church, De Beauvoir Road. George Alagiah, whose new series \Mixed Race Britain” is currently showing on the BBC will be returning to De Beauvoir for the 2011 Hackney Debate the third in the series. This time we will look at the media in the wake of phone hacking the closure of the News of the World and the extraordinary sight of an (allegedly) humbled Rupert Murdoch. Should the media now be more tightly regulated? What should the balance between private and public ownership be? If Murdoch pulls out of newspapers could there in fact be worse to come? Where does this leave freedom of speech? Speakers will include- Nick Higham BBC correspondent- James Alan Anslow City University lecturer formerly at the News of the World- Suzanne Moore freelance journalist writing for the Guardian and Mail on Sunday. Doors open at 7pm and the debate will start at 7.30. Admission free; bar available before and during the debate. “
