Special needs baby group?

Has anyone heard of a special needs mum and baby group in hackney? My 8 month old has cerebral palsy and the usual groups aren’t cutting the mustard for me at the moment. If there isn’t one and you or someone you know might be interested in one get in touch and I might set one up.

  1. I might be worth asking @hackneydoula if she knows of any.

  2. Hi @katenelson (I am Kate’s doula so we know each other)! I don’t know but will dig around . Emailed you some dates for a meet up so let me know if you might be free. R x

  3. Hi there Kate I do’t think there is a specific special needs baby group but you can always contact Hackney Ark  the children with disabilities centre. Portage used to hold weekly drop ins for parents of young children with special needs up to school age. The portage service is excellent and a way to meet other parents – they also have loads of advice and support and offer help with filling out DLA forms. Maybe you could start one off if you can find some other mums. You can also visit the resoure centre there which has lots of information for parents of children with additioal needs.  If you ever want to get more involved with tryng to influence services for children with CP and other disabilities locally do get in touch with HiP, it is an indepedent forum for parents/carers of children with disabilities/special needs. We are a friendly bunch of parents trying to get parents’ voices heard. We also help to run Hackney Familes Together – an informatio forum for parents and carers of children with special needs. HFT meets monthly and has different themes/speakers. Next month we are running a session on challenging behaviour at Chats but there are many other interesting meetings – you get lunch! If you are on twitter follow us @hiphackney. All the best, Amanda
