Renting out and heading out during Olympics?

I am thinking taking some holidays during the Olympics and heading out of London. Everyone I talked to suggests renting out my place (and making a mint). Anyone else have experience doing short-term holiday lets? I don’t even know how to go about this…

   thanks Benjamin, makes interesting reading. Not sure how much demand there is for places in Hackney. I bet tourists want to stay more central and have more creature comforts.
