Purim in Stanford Hill

If any of you were around Stanford Hill last weekend, you would have seen an array of costumes as the Jewish community celebrated Purim, which looked like a whole lot of fun.

From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purim
Purim (Hebrew: About this sound פּוּרִים (help·info) Pûrîm “lots”, from the word pur פור,[2] related to Akkadian pūru) is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire where a plot had been formed to destroy them. The story is recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther (Megillat Ester מגילת אסתר in Hebrew).

Here’s an intagram I took:

  1. Thanks Emily. I popped up and bloody loved it. Such a fun atmosphere. I think I’ll spend the whole day wandering around Stamford Hill next year.

I made a little Instagram video of some of the festivities:

  3. Nice video 🙂 Agreed, I definitely want to see a bit more next year. My parents celebrated in a synagog in south London, but sounds like it was pretty tame compared to the festivities in Stamford Hill.

(I updated your commend to make it a link, looks like the oEmbed feature isn’t working with intagram videos.)

  4. Here’s some photos wot I took in 2011 when I visited Purim, it’s great to see how much fun they have http://www.flickr.com/photos/53893059@N05/sets/72157626308919052/
