Nonsense Express Film Screening, Gig, DJ Set from Sacha Dieu and Zorokovich 1917 Vodka Hackney Pictu
Next Friday (31st August) Hackney Picturehouse Attic welcomes a special screening of young filmmaker’s debut documentary ‘The Nonsense Express’. The story of Hackney local and ‘Belarus’s answer to Bob Dylan’ Sasha Ilyukevich and his Hackney-based group of musicians The Highly Skilled Migrants taking their ‘Russophone Bolsha Nova Folk n Roll’ on what turned out to be a fairly disastrous (but very funny) tour of Russia and Belarus. Here’s the trailer:
As one reviewer has stated: “…as the band’s imagined path to success leads to one dead end after another there is a sense of release and serenity the letting go of unanswered prayers…something quite unexpected and beautiful occurs.” Band are currently promising to busk on Mare Street in the Afternoon with Zorokovich 1917 Vodka (another beloved Hackney immigrant from the East) from the van. After the screening there’ll be a gig from the band and a DJ set from Sacha Dieu (Stranger Than Paradise) Wraps up at 1am – Not bad for £5!
