metropolis – first exhibition at the new Picturehouse, opens Fri 28th
This dynamic exhibition presents a collection of Black and White photographs shot by Rob Macdonald in cities including Tokyo, Madrid, New York, Budapest and San Francisco and coincides with the accompanying book – metropolis. Many of the images featured in the show employ powerful compositions and high contrast to explore the monumental architecture of the city whilst others settle on subtle and striking details. This body of work is arresting in its dramatic command of the formal qualities of the medium. Rob Macdonald is a Brighton-based photographer and a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows and has work in private collections. Photomonth is an international photography festival focused on East London. Founded in 2001 and taking place in October and November each year the festival aims to demonstrate the diversity of contemporary photography and reach the widest possible audience. www.robmacdonaldphoto.com
