Hi all,
you might notice that I have made a small change to the yeah! Hackney logo. The former “H” wrist tattoo/stamp has been replaced by a Hackney map.

The decision behind the change is because the “H” is part of the Hackney council logo and having it on the yeah! Hackney branding is a little confusing particularly as it is not associated with them; the council felt the same and after a polite request from them I removed it in favour of the map.
I’m really happy with the change and think it suits the brand better.

  1. You would think LBH would be pleased that a local website like this is using it’s branding. But I think you should leave the hand clear of any markings. The map, I’m afraid, just looks like a green blotch, like it’s got a disease! It’s not a recognizable shape to anyone.

  2. The hand has to work without the words as it appears like that in many places, it also looks a bit odd with nothing on it. I like the idea that someone loves Hackney so much that they get the borough shape tattooed on their wrist.

  3. I agree that there needs to be something on the thumbs up, and to be honest I actually prefer the map to the H. I think its pretty obvious what it is.

  10. I can certainly understand the need to change the the logo so as not to suggest a link to the Council, but I’m not sure that the map of Hackney quite does it for me. Maybe I just don’t know my own borough well enough and this is my excuse to go on a Sinclair-inspired walk; however, the administrative boundaries just aren’t a feature of my thinking about Hackney (I know when I’m leaving it by crossing a canal / park / etc., but those are fuzzy landmark edges)…

    Is there anything else quintessentially ‘Hackney’ but more readily identifiable? Graffiti… Sweet Tooth (biting the hand that feeds…)? Something like that?

  11. Making it too street is a little exclusive in my opinion – finding something that says Hackney is a tough one, but I think the map does a great job.

    Interestingly the H confused some people too – not everyone knows the council logo.

  13. Agree that Sweet Tooth is probably too obscure for a logo and didn’t mean it in all seriousness, but was just trying to point in other possible directions since his work is visible on practically every street in Hackney… 😛

    At the end of the day it’s your site, and you should do whatever the hell you feel like doing.
