New project for Hackney Wick
A project by artist Lucy Harrison, who is collecting song lyrics from residents of the 5 London Olympic host boroughs for a projection event in Hackney Wick in September 2011.

The project is a celebration of all the different styles of music that are listened to in East London. Local residents are invited to choose a line from one of their favourite songs that somehow resonates with them and says something about the local area and their hopes for the future.

Lucy will be collecting lyrics via this site but also through a series of social events in and around Hackney Wick. If you are part of a group who would like to be visited, to share and play your favourite music, please get in touch.

This project has been commissioned by the Olympic Delivery Authority and is supported by Arts Council England. It is inspired by one of the ODA’s art commissions “RUN” by Monica Bonvicini which will be installed inside the Olympic Park this Autumn.

  1. Please email me lightupyourstreet@btinernet.com with song lines or if you would like to organise a music event with me. Lucy

  2. You can now follow the project on Twitter: @lightupyrstreet. Send me your song lyrics to be included in the Hackney Wick projection using #lightupyourstreet. It just needs to be one line, from any song you like, although lyrics that you think relate to east London are especially welcome.
