Lesney Industries

Lesney was based in Hackney Wick and made die cast models – matchbox cars. The building was recently torn down as part of the regeneration of the area as a site with an interesting past I though I’d start a topic on it

   No doubt there are copyright issues, but I think it a shame that Telford Homes, who’ve developed the site, have confused the history a little by naming the development ‘Matchmakers Wharf’.

   “presumably because one should never ever brand flats as Matchboxes”. Bit of a shame they’re airbrushing history a little.”

   I completely agree. I can’t believe I am going to say this but…they are even more vile looking than the ones on Dalston Lane.
