No: 020 8356 3000 Email: info@hackney.gov.uk1) Cambridge graduate Claire Norman will be discussing International Women’s Day within the context of the progression of women’s fiction. A relaxation in censorship laws during the English civil wars enabled more women writers to publish more texts primarily aimed at a female audience. Historically women who wrote for publication were not considered to be engaging in ‘a socially approved activity’. Claire will lead a light discussion about the history of women in fiction women’s fiction and how women as audience came to define a crucial period of literary history. 2) Artist Alix Edwards will be talking about her work BLOOM IN WOMEN which is currently on show in our exhibition area. These colourful photographs demonstrate how the surreal can co-exist in nature and urban and will be appearing at three venues around East London.
