Hackney Wick conservation area
In November 2009, Hackney Council designated an area within Hackney Wick as a Conservation Area ahead of public consultation. This will protect its historic buildings and open spaces, which have come under development pressure from the area’s close proximity to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games site.
The area is located immediately north of Hackney Wick station and forms part of the ‘Hackney Wick group of historic factories’, which extends further south into the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the London Legacy Development agency are looking to extend this and the two other conservation areas around Hackney Wick (Fish Island Conservation Area in Tower Hamlets and Sugar House Lane and Three Mills Conservation Area in Newham)
There is a petition to support the extension here: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/help-save-creative-hackney-wick-and-support-the/
