Hackney Homemade’s Summer of Fun
Now that the sun is here, we’d like to tell you about a few exciting events that are going to make this a summer to remember… Clapton Festival – 15th to 17th JuneThe middle weekend in June sees the return of the Clapton Festival with a full programme of music and entertainment running alongside the market on Saturday and festive goings on at our Sunday Market too. Last year was a huge success with more than 60 stalls at the market and over a thousand people visiting. ** Things kick off on the Friday night with the Grand Opening Party at Core Arts featuring Molly’s Daggers Georges Kaplan Presents Frank Bangay Makayla Leanne and a host of special guests. ** St John at Hackney Summer Fête – Saturday 7th JulyExpect bags of entertainment music and frolics with a village fair atmosphere lent the Hackney touch by local Pearly Kings and Queens. For the kids there’s a playbus children’s theatre a fire engine bouncy castle and lots of games and activities. There will be a wide variety of market stalls both in the gardens opposite M&S and in front of the Church. We’re putting together a very special Hackney Homemade Hamper for the fête raffle with all proceeds to the church. So come on stallholders and kindly customers too. Please get in touch if you have something you would like to offer and we can publicise it. Olympic Torch – Saturday 21st JulyThe torch will be coming through Hackney Central on Saturday 21st July. To celebrate lots of local organisations (including us) are coming together with a full programme of entertainment events and activities. There will be throngs of people on the streets of Hackney and the eyes of the world’s media upon us so we expect a really crowded fun day at the market. Book a stall online for any of the above events. Of course our market is also on throughout the year – every Saturday (St John’s) and Sunday (@the Book Box). Find us on Facebook follow us on Twitter. We look forward to a summer of fun at Hackney Homemade markets and seeing you there! A stall costs just £20 dropping to £15 if you book for a few dates. *** Important Info for Current & Potential Stallholders ***Please note: all bookings must be made online through our website – payments are processed via paypal (if you don’t have a paypal account you will be prompted to create one – and this is a 2 minute process). We have set it up this way so so that we can manage bookings effectively as well as publicising individual stallholders. We cannot guarantee a pitch for stallholders who show up without paying online in advance. If we can accommodate you the fee will be £30 – cash payments do mean extra admin. Late Trading: With summer finally here (and it seems to be living up to its name today) it makes sense for us to trade a little later into the day. So as of this week our official trading times will be from 11am – 5pm. If it goes well we may extend it to 6pm for the rest of the summer. Please note that although FOOD is the core of our Saturday Market we do welcome applications from all kinds of stallholders including clothes jewellery bric a brac books etc. We do still have pitches available – for all kinds of stalls so please get in touch. Market Trading Course Saturday 23rd June: This informative training day will be focussed on giving start-up traders a firm grounding in how to run a market stall. It will include workshop sessions with participants encouraged to input and ask questions and we’ll be doing a tour and tastings around our market. Everyone who completes the course gets a free stall for the date of their choosing at Hackney Homemade Market. This will be a great opportunity to test drive your business with our established traders on hand for help and advice. The course is just £25 or free if you’re unemployed and living in Hackney. Places are limited so contact Jane to book your place. Free Use of Cargo Bikes: Traders at Hackney Homemade have been offered a wonderful opportunity to use a cargo bike (basically a bike with a big trailer at the front) to transport their goods for free to the Saturday market. This will suit traders with a reasonably compact setup and who live within a mile or so of the market. This kind offer comes courtesy of Carry Me Cargo Bikes. For more info please get in touch with Alix via her website carryme.org.uk.”
