Hackney History
I was born in Hockley House, Morning Lane (Morningside Estate) Hackney in 1947 but have been living in the USA since 2003. My parents and family were also born in Hackney. I would love to see some old Hackney photos if anybody can upload them to this site, especially Well Street and Mare Street. I can’t get to the Hackney Archives, for obvious reasons, so this is my only option. I went to St. John’s C of E school (in Mehetable/Isabella Road) then South Hackney, in Cassland Road. From the age of 5 to 7 went to Ram’s School in Lower Clapton Road which was part of St. John’s. The doctor we had was Dr. Louis Silman who was in Morning Lane. Anyway, would like to hear from someone if they have any information.

Dear Primrose, I know Hockley House well, I used to have friends who lived in that estate. We would sit in the stairwells with our transistor radios blaring. I was a postman for many years in the local sorting office round the corner in Wick rd. I too would love to find old maps or photos of our part of Hackney in particular. I was raised in Hackney Wick, which was like a little village in those days, everyone knew each other and trusted each other. No wonder we cant forget those “good old days”. I hope you are still on the site because I have noticed a few years have passed since you posted.
