Yes, yes, I know this is kind of mostly just over the boarder in Islington, but the Green itself is partly in Hackney and it’s basically a bunch of special offers happening nearby, and mostly involving lovely food, so I thought y’all would want to know. (This is just the press release – all the offers are at the bottom.) The Newington Green ‘Christmas Cheer’ For a week commencing Wednesday 1st December to 7th December Newington Green is all about the Christmas Cheer. For the first week of December traders around Newington Green will be celebrating the festive season by keeping things local and providing discounts and offers. Newington Green Traders Association, with the help of Newington Green Action Group, have come together in a bid to pull some of the shoppers out of central London this Christmas period and back to those independent shops, pubs and local amenities that are so important for the local economy.If you find yourself thinking about how to do your Christmas shopping without trawling the Oxford Street crowds or spending your money online at the big super brands… well, you can head down to Newington Green and surrounding areas and make a day of it.In the streets around the Green you’ll find an array of shops from vintage to kids to bikes and florists, a broad selection of delis, bakeries and specialist food shops; plus some outstanding cafés, restaurants and gastro pubs.There are gifts to be bought, meals to be eaten and, most importantly, special offers to be taken advantage of in the shopping calendar’s most expensive month of the year.On top of that, organised by the ever wonderful Newington Green Action Group, on the 6th of December there will be Carols On the Green from 6pm. Everyone is invited to this family event and encouraged to watch/sing whatever they wish, bring lanterns, hot toddies, cold toddlers (wrapped up of course) and a woolly hat.From 1st December to 7th, participants and offers include:
