Best Vietnamese in Hackney?

We have probably the biggest range of Vietnamese  restaurants in the country on our doorstep. Lucky us, huh?! But with so many to choose from how do you know which to pick? Give me your recs, please people? 😀

  1. Green Papaya is still my favourite, I’ve been going there for about 10 years and the menu has never changed, I love the salt and pepper tofu.I would also recommend Namo in Victoria Park and had a good meal at Viet Grill the other day.Yum Vietnamese food 🙂

  2. I just blogged about this yesterday. Huong Viet on Englefield Road is my new favourite:http://dillsorbet.blogspot.co.uk/ But agree – Green Papaya is a trusty friend you can keep going back to.”

  3. I feel that the standards at Huong Viet have slipped in the past few years (it was undisputed about 5 years back). My current favourite is Hai Phong on Mare Street, which has improved markedly since its makeover. They do the best beef Hue soup out there, in my opinion. Their traditional pancake is also better and about twice the size of the one you’ll get in Huong Viet.

  4. Viet Grill is my favourite for the power of its flavours but Song Que is also always very good despite the brusque service. I don’t rate Huong Viet after a couple of dodgy experiences. Am yet to try Green Papaya despite passing it everyday but I have heard many people talk of how good it is.

  5. The trick with Green Papaya is to book or you don’t always get a table, but you can book 20mins beforehand and be ok. I tend to call them when I’m on the way. Good to also remember that they are closed on Mondays

  6. mein tay all the way!!! just look at the pics and they were taken on iphone: http://londontheinsideeat.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/review-mein-tay.html

  7. For E8 we have been going to Hai Noi Pho near Well St on Mare St since we can walk there. Green Papaya prices are a bit high and I don’t really recogise the dishes as Vietnamese but what do I know! (They seem more Chinese….) We also were taken by Vietnamese friends to Que Viet near Flowers on Kingsland Road. They assured us the food was typically Ha Noi style the way they cook it themselves – we like the Hanoi Fish and the Buda Aubergine. I also like Viet Grill especially at lunch time when they have special prices. Who’s been to Keu? I haven’t yet. Not overly fond of sandwiches but it always smells wonderful in there, if rather trendy, (So I assume over priced.)

  8. Viet Hoa, all day long for me. Chillie salt squid and Fried Catfish with the ginger sauce. To be honest most are really good.
