Allen Road Project by Richard Scott

Check out this brilliant now and then panorama of Allen Road in 1972 by Richard Scott. You can see how all the shopfronts have disappeared over 40 years. http://www.hackney.gov.uk/allen-road-panorama.htm “In 1972 Richard Scott photographed the whole length of the north side of Allen Road N16. These slides have been digitally re-constructed to make a complete panorama. Hackney Museum worked with Richard and local residents to create a new panorama of the road in 2008.”

  1. Wow, certainly worth a look. I was at the Shakespeare last weekend, wondering about the frontage – now I can see how it was 40 years ago. I find it interesting that the new panorama doesn’t have any people in it – the range, style and activity of the people are just as interesting as the buildings for me. Shame either they weren’t there or weren’t photographed. But you gotta love those old Comer vans – I’d love to have one now and turn it into my very own Mystery Machine. Fulfil those old childhood Scooby Doo fantasies.

  2. My Great Aunt & Uncle lived at No.21 above the Glassworks shop. I cannot make out if it is the same building, but it looks more shabby today than it did in the 1972 photo.
