1stFloor, Hackney Downs Studios5-9 Amhurst TerraceHackneyE8 2BT In response to the ‘pop-up’ phenomenon, A-side B-side Gallery have decided to go permanent. A-side B-side is a gallery, project space and studios situated in the heart of the cutting edge complex: The Hackney Downs Studios on Amhurst Terrace. As a multi-functioning space, we also host events, run art classes and provide master class workshops. Our studios house a collective of both emerging and established artists whilst supporting ambitious collaborations within an experimental and evolving creative space. On Friday 30th March, A-side B-side will launch their 2012 exhibition programme with a dynamic and well-timed show featuring the work of four British artists inordinately connectedwith Hackney. In reflection of the many aspects of A-side B-side, the launch night will be an eclectic mix of live music, a show-stopping exhibition, locally brewed ale and last but not least, the unveiling of the Spy Hole Gallery complete with 1:250 scale art.  It will be a celebration of a brand new venture and the showcasing of the space. A-side B-side is the brainchild of artists Catherine Magnani and Tinsel Edwards, who once shared a studio within a derelict cinema off Hoxton Square before it sadly closed its doors and fell into the hands of the developers.  After being out of touch for some time, last Autumn they had a fortuitous meeting that led to discussions about wanting to set up a gallery and studios in Hackney, not only for artists to use but equally be far reaching into their surrounding community.  Wanting to establish an environment for all budding creative’s to be included and represented, their plans grew and A-side B-side was formed.
