I have looked at planning application 2011/3486. Just what the Clapton Pond Conservation Area needs. A pastiche of a 1950s building, complete with a front facade of coloured polycarbonate arch and dome, aluminium and uPVC windows and tinted glazed units with a battery of rooflights on the top. Look out Harlow – here we come!!

If people want to object to this application it’s also worth signing this petition: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/saveourcinema/index.html

Does anyone know what a valid objection would be?

The application was passed at Planning Sub-Committee last week with some important conditions on retaining some internal features and more appropriate materials for the frontage that is in the Conservation Area. It was not an entirely uncontroversial passage through committee!

seems like common sense has prevailed here. Hopefully everyone can now walk away with their heads held high. Further attempts to stop the church developing the property would be very unfortunate, and in my opinion counter-productive.

Looks as though St Mary of Zion are raising funds for their works. Their website includes a selection of CGIs and model photos;
